Mechanic

Robert B. Our Company invites applications for a Mechanic to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to expand your experience by working on both vehicles and heavy equipment in support of private and public construction projects. Our mechanics play a critical role in keeping our trucks and heavy equipment moving forward in a safe and reliable manner with the goal of minimizing downtime. The position generally works in the shop but will occasionally travel to active construction sites. 

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain cars and medium duty trucks to ensure operational efficiency and safety. Additional opportunity to build skills to be able to work on heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, graders, and cranes.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance.
  • Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair/replace mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, and transmissions. Perform tests to ensure proper functioning. Diagnose using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices. Identify mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools. 
  • Weld or solder broken parts and structural members using electric or gas welders and soldering tools. 
  • Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions using hand tools, jacks, and cranes. 
  • Examine critical parts and systems using a standardized checklist. Test drive vehicles to confirm safe and proper operation.
  • Plan and prioritize work based on operational needs, in consultation with supervisor. Maintain accurate maintenance records and repair logs. Effectively communicate status of projects.
  • Collaborate with site supervisors and operators to identify equipment needs or issues. As directed, conduct field service visits to inspect and repair vehicles.
  • Maintain a commitment to safety ensuring compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Maintain shop and tools in a clean and organized manner.

General Qualifications 

  • Minimum 2 years of related experience in the construction or heavy equipment industry preferred. 
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) required, or completion of vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge in all aspects of maintenance repair. Demonstrated ability and understanding of mechanical, hydraulic pneumatic, and electrical systems. Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues using diagnostic tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read technical manuals and schematics. 
  • Valid MA driver’s license required.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred; Company-sponsored training is available.
  • Forklift certification preferred; Company-sponsored training is available.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

The position requires the successful completion of a background check and other pre-employment screenings. The expected salary range for this position is $30-40.00 per hour. Actual salaries will depend on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, education and other qualifications. Robert B.
