Summer 2026 Internship | Safety

Internship Summary

Robert B. Our Company is committed to providing an immersive and dynamic summer internship experience in workplace safety. The intern will assist the Safety Team with the development, implementation and maintenance of the Robert B. Our Safety Program in support of employees involved in commercial and residential site utility construction. This internship provides hands-on exposure to active construction environments, combining safety design principles with field safety operations. The intern will assist with planning, coordination, and execution of safety principles while gaining practical experience in safety practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working in close collaboration/mentorship with Safety Directors, assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of the Safety Program.
  • Participate in the daily activities of the Safety Department and serve as an ambassador to promote safety compliance.
  • Assist with conducting workplace safety inspections/site visits, audits and risk assessments. Identify potential safety hazards and work collaboratively with Safety Directors and on-site teams to address and correct safety hazards.
  • Participate in safety investigations to determine root cause and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist with researching relevant safety regulations and summarize/document findings. Develop skills to be able to navigate OSHA/DOT and other regulatory agency resources (physical books, eCFR, online entity website or other tools)
  • Assist with developing policies and training materials. Assist with facilitating safety training.
  • Attend and actively participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Conduct reviews of safety training compliance and notify relevant parties of outstanding matters.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records for efficient and effective data retrieval and retention.

Learning Opportunities

  • Exposure to commercial construction projects. Gain exposure to safety relative to marine construction, excavation, site work, material handling, rigging/hoisting, utility work, and OSHA standards (General Industry, Construction and Marine)
  • Gain practical experience in environmental and workplace safety regulations including navigation of regulatory body resources/tools, regulation interpretation and retention, site visit conduct and critical eye standards, site visit findings research.
  • Gain exposure to MSHA, DOT, EPA, FMCSA and USCG regulations.
  • Develop leadership and facilitator skills.
  • Develop communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Insight into safety standards, quality control, and regulatory compliance on active job sites.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in occupational health/safety, construction management, or related field.
  • Completion of foundational safety and management coursework. Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI and NIOSH is required.
  • Demonstrated and genuine interest in the construction industry
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google. Advanced general technology orientation with the ability to learn new programs.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication skills and excellent listening skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • OSHA 10 certification (training will be provided)
  • Ability to multi-task in a faced-paced environment, ability to establish priorities in a changing work environment and ability to successfully meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Requires a valid MA driver’s license and ability to meet Company insurance standards.
  • Requires the ability to travel between job sites and must have reliable transportation; mileage reimbursement available.
  • The internship requires the successful completion of a background check and drug test.

Work Environment

  • Combination of office and active construction site settings with majority of the time spent in the field. Regular travel between job sites.
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions, driving conditions, roadwork with traffic conditions, deep and protected excavations, mechanical equipment and active job site operations.
  • Strong emphasis on safety, teamwork, and professional development.
  • The position requires frequent travel to/from active construction job sites.

Internship Duration and Salary

  • Summer 2026
  • Full-time beginning on/around June 1 through approximately mid-August (depending on candidate availability)
  • Wage: $23.00/hour
